Microplastics in Fish & Seafood
Digestion-based extraction (NaCl and hydrogen peroxide), microscopic identification and polymer characterisation of microplastics in commercially important fish.

Digestion-based extraction (NaCl and hydrogen peroxide), microscopic identification and polymer characterisation of microplastics in commercially important fish.
Why it matters
Bangladesh is one of the world's leading fish-producing countries, and quality and safety decide both consumer health and export value. Conventional laboratory methods are slow, expensive and destroy the sample. This laboratory develops methods that are fast, non-destructive and affordable enough for routine use.
How we work
- Sample collection from local landing centres, farms and markets
- Standardised sample preparation in the laboratory
- Instrumental measurement and data acquisition
- Chemometric modelling and validation
- Training of students and stakeholders on the method
Equipment & facilities

Microscopy unit for microplastics
Stereo and compound microscopy for identifying and counting microplastic particles after digestion.

Sample preparation unit
Digestion, filtration and homogenisation setup used before instrumental analysis.
